INTRO
My name is Melinda Parker and I am really excited to be taking this course. This is my first class at PCC, and although it is my first time studying at a community college, I have an Associate of Arts degree in Merchandise Product Development as well. I have been naturally drawn to the arts, creative expression, and fashion since I was a little girl, with a profound fascination for color. The main reason I am taking this course is because I run a platform of my own called So Caposhi that focuses on the intuitive process of curating creative expression and it's visceral effects through all artistic mediums.
I spend many hours a week researching and collecting images in the library, scouring books and magazines, and learning as much as I can about the creative process. So additionally to my own studious habits, I'm really interesting in gaining some proper structure to my knowledge of Art and how to professionally examine, present, and discuss works of Art in a clear manner that I can directly apply to my future work as an intuitive curator.
Pipilotti Rist is one of my favorite visual artists of all time. I resonate so deeply with her spiritual approach to moving beyond our common familiarities with what sensuality and intimacy look, feel and appear like, particularly exploring, portraying and emphasizing the female body and experience. Her work feels so familiar in my body—like I am the subject in the videos. Her ability to weave pleasure and simplicity of presence through saturated color, sound and almost-psychedelic visual affects in her videos is what attracts me so deeply. She's incredibly inspiring.
